Harold "Dean" Herrick, Sr.

Harold "Dean" Herrick Sr., 62, a longtime Wenatchee and former longtime Waterville resident, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 19, 2009. He was born on October 21, 1947, at Portland, OR, to Byron Alexander and Elizabeth "Juanita" (Reed) Herrick. He spent his early years growing up while making numerous moves with his father's construction jobs. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in April of 1964, and he served through November of 1970. He entered the U.S. Air Force in August of 1971, and served through May of 1974. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Wenatchee Valley College, where he received his Associate of Arts Degree. He worked at various jobs, as well as for Douglas County Parks and Recreation, prior to going to work for the State of Washington. He worked for the Department of Social and Health Services in Wenatchee, where he met the love of his life, Rosemary Reyna. They were married on November 24, 1985, at Rock Island. They made their home together in Wenatchee. He worked at D.S.H.S. for 25 years, before retiring as a Financial Services Supervisor in 2008. Dean was a member of the Columbia River Chapter of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group). He loved motorcycle riding, touring, camping and liked to keep his bikes clean. During the summer of 2008, he rode to Sturgis and Alaska. He also loved the music of the 1960's, and was a handyman who enjoyed doing projects around the house.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Herrick of Wenatchee; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold "Dean" Jr. and Alisia Herrick of Wenatchee; one daughter, Deanna Pinney of Bonney Lake, WA; his mother, Elizabeth "Juanita" Herrick of Battle Mountain, NV; two sisters, Wanda Lee Brown of Vancouver, WA and Elizabeth Leona and her husband, Jerry Kiehne of Battle Mountain, NV; one brother, Byron LeRoy Herrick of Waterville; and four grandchildren, Eric Herrick and Skylar Herrick, both of Wenatchee and Dayson Dean Schall and Tasia Briann Pinney, both of Bonney Lake, WA. He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Alexander Herrick in 1990.
A Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Chapel, led by Deacon Lupe Reyna. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, East Wenatchee, with the Rev. Fr. Argemiro Orozco, Celebrant. A Graveside Service with Marine Corps Military Honors will be on Friday, November 27, at 1:00 p.m. in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR. Rosemary: I was so surprised to see this. My heart really goes out to you. I am really glad Dean was able to retire when he did and have time to do some of the things he enjoyed. Take care and God bless. Liz Hemberry
