Three NCW festivals divvy up the fun
Three NCW festivals divvy up the fun
Thursday, October 1, 2009
A crowd gathers for Bavarian music at the Front Street gazebo in Leavenworth. German-flavored entertainment is always on tap in the Bavarian Village, but especially at Oktoberfest time.
Food, music, dancing and ... oh, what’s that other thing they do at Oktoberfest? It’s on the tip of my tongue ...

Spokane bluegrass band Prairie Flyer graces the 2009 Apple Days festival this weekend on the grounds of the Cashmere Museum and Pioneer Village.
Defy gravity, or at least dream of it, at this weekend’s Wings and Wheels celebration in East Wenatchee.
Sometimes festivals are like trying to catch a cab — you wait around a while and then three show up at once.
This weekend’s festivities in NCW will send the partygoer spinning to all points of the compass ... well, mostly East Wenatchee and points upriver. Plane and car aficionados can get their fill of both when the seventh annual Wings and Wheels gasses up at Eastmont Community Park and Pangborn Memorial Airport; Cashmere harvests some fun with its old-timey Apple Days celebration at the Cashmere Museum and Pioneer Village; and Leavenworth capitalizes on the autumnal quest for beer and schnitzel with its 12th annual Oktoberfest, centered on the downtown Festhalle auditorium.
You may not make it to all these celebrations, but between them, they satisfy a range of interests. If you stay inside all weekend, you’re missing out three ways to Sunday.

Beyond the main events at Eastmont Community Park, visit Pangborn Memorial Airport on “Aviation Day” Saturday for special events and $20 airplane rides with the Wings of Wenatchee. (Airplane rides continue Sunday.) Between radio-controlled cars, show-and-shines, aircraft displays and a carnival, there’s a lot of ways to celebrate the conveyances that carry us.

Reese and performances by Joan Tucker and an old-time gospel singing group. Regular events returning include the Oregon Trail Travelers, the Shootists, an Indian encampment, and flintknapping and gold panning. There’s also an apple pie contest, bake sale and book sale.
