H1N1 vaccine to arrive soon
Thursday, October 1, 2009
EAST WENATCHEE — The first H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine doses are expected to arrive in North Central Washington within two weeks.
The first vaccine doses to arrive will be the live, nasal vaccine which can only be given to healthy people ages 2 to 49, according to the Chelan-Douglas Health District.
It cannot be given to pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions and health care workers who work with people who have severely suppressed immune systems.
A Health District news release says children usually respond best to the nasal vaccine, and the early vaccine shipments will be sent to children’s medical providers.
More vaccine is expected to arrive in November when the Health District has planned public clinics for vaccinations.
