Flamenco show matinee added
LEAVENWORTH — After its 7:30 p.m. show sold out, the flamenco troupe Arte y Pureza scheduled a special matinee for 2 p.m. Sunday at Sleeping Lady Chapel Theater, 7375 Icicle Road. Tickets for the news show go for $18 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, available at 548-6344. The Spanish flamenco ensemble features Gypsy vocalist Inés Bacán as special guest in one of her first U.S. appearances.

Inspired by the music of Alison Krauss, Patsy Cline and Nanci Griffith, Seattle musician Lewis performs sets of original heartfelt folk. The singer, songwriter and guitarist stops at two NCW spots this weekend, showing up on the Mela stage Friday, and again at the Cascade Coffeehouse Saturday. She released her most recent CD, “Long Time,” in 2007.

Across the globe, bodies rise to assemble a worldwide “Thriller” dance, based on Michael Jackson’s music video of the same name. The event began in Toronto in 2006, where the Guinness World Record was set for the largest “Thriller” dance. It expanded to 52 cities on five continents in 2007, setting two world records, and 71 cities in 10 countries in 2008, breaking two world records. The Fabulous Feet Dance Studio, 1833 N. Wenatchee Ave., hosts this year’s Wenatchee segment of the event, and provides lessons and practices up until the big day. It is a local fundraising effort for The Kitty Rescue. Digest the funky blues of Wenatchee’s Junk Belly at the Outpost. Formed in 2008, the band plays a set of original tunes inspired by the music of the Allman Brothers, Ben Harper and Santana. The group’s roster includes vocalist-guitarist Wayne Evans, guitarist-keyboardist Jeff Frantz, bassist Tony Purdom and drummer Paul Mares.

Spokane’s 15-year-old blues ensemble shimmies into Club Crow on Saturday. The group released its latest album, “Shiny Metal Objects,” in 2008, and was awarded as best band that year by the Inland Empire Blues Society. Band members include guitarist Pat Barclay, keyboardist Dave Winslow, bassist Rick Smith, saxophone player Chuck Swanson and drummer Mark Stephen.

Vocalist-guitarist Scott takes the leads off the George CoffeeHouse’s 2009-10 season. Playing a set of classic rock, blues and R&B, Scott is accompanied by his rhythm section, Desert Blues. The group frequently performs at the CoffeeHouse, most recently during its annual Fourth of July celebration.
