WASILLA, Alaska — Mitch Torrel scored two goals in regulation, and Wenatchee’s defense held on until the Wild could finally vanquish the Alaska Avalanche in a shootout on Saturday night.

The Wild defeated the Avalanche 3-2, and wrapped up their road trip through Alaska with a record of 7-3.

Wenatchee will take a two-week break before starting a four-game homestand against the Wichita Falls Wildcats and the Texas Tornado beginning on Oct. 30.

Wenatchee avenged a 4-0 loss to Alaska on Friday night in Saturday’s win, and the Wild’s offense came from an unlikely source.

Torrel scored just his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the game, one to start off each of the first two periods.

He opened the scoring with a goal off assists from Jordan Young and Tyler Parker just under four minutes into the game, but Seth Johnson answered for the Avalanche almost a minute later.

Torrel struck again with the Wild a man down midway through the second period, again off a feed from Young.

Alaska answered through Kyle Pichler with four minutes left in the period, with Robb Haider and Braden Kinnebrew providing the assists.

Wenatchee goaltender Mac Carruth and Alaska counterpart Kale Robertson kept the score at 2-2 through the third period and the overtime period, forcing the game into a shootout.

Jeff Jubinville and Nathan Sliwinski converted their penalty shots for Wenatchee, and Nardo Nagtzaam and Zach Smith scored for Alaska.

Wenatchee veteran Duncan McKellar broke the deadlock for the Wild, and Carruth turned away Pichler and Berkley Scott to give Wenatchee the victory.

Carruth finished with 31 saves on 33 shots, and Robertson stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced from the Wild.
