CHELAN — Several classes of hydroplane racing will highlight this weekend’s Lake Chelan Hydrofest.
Food and a beer garden also are on the menu at Don Morse Park on the shores of Lake Chelan.
The 15th-annual Norm Evans Apple Cup Hydroplane Races begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The first two heats start at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, racing begins at 10:30 a.m. with the remaining heats, consolation heats and finals on tap for the day.
The Grand Prix class of boats typically clock lap speeds of about 120 mph.
Among the racers this weekend will be Chelan’s Mark Evans, who captured the San Diego Unlimited race last weekend in his return to the sport following a serious accident in 2003 at Detroit.
