Wenatchee man raped teen, police say
Saturday, February 6, 2010
WATERVILLE — A Wenatchee man has been charged with second-degree rape in connection with the assault of a 15-year-old girl at a party.
The Douglas County Prosecutor’s Office filed the charge, and included an alternative charge of third-degree rape of a child, against Oscar Jose Avelar, 25, on Tuesday.
Douglas County Detective Steve Groseclose wrote in a report filed with the court that on Jan. 25 he met the victim and her mother at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
He said the girl had told her mother that she was going to spend the night with a girlfriend, but instead attended a party in the 2100 block of Sunset Highway. The girl told Groseclose she drank several alcoholic beverages and smoked some marijuana at the party, felt tired and went to sleep in a spare bedroom.
The girl said when she woke up, Avelar was sexually assaulting her but she managed to push him off, Groseclose wrote in his report. A friend drove the girl to her home.
An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday. Avelar, who was asleep in his Wenatchee home where he lives with his girlfriend and children, was arrested Wednesday.
He is being held on a $100,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 16.

"Pigs hate men. People say!"
I knew it!! Pigs started swine flu to get back at men for all the porker jokes. It's germ warfare.
Rally the troups boys, we'll eat those pigs for breakfast. (YUMMMM, YUM)
I don't mean to make light of the story at all. I have two teen daughters. I would bet this kind of thing happens far more often than reported. Girls drinking with guys at any age get taken advantage of. It's going to happen and girls usually know the risks, but that doesn't justify the guys behavior. People who alter their state of mind with drugs do stupid things and take risks. Sad that so many of a teens worst moments can come with a hangover.

A hangover would have been a welcome thing to wake up to. Unfortunately, this 15 year old awoke to something far worse. Did she make bad choices, absolutely. What exactly were those choices. She chose to lie to her mom, she chose to drink and smoke, and she chose to go to bed in a house that she shouldn't have been at. This was not a party of adults, where this teenager ended up at. A resident of the house, a teenager, invited a couple of friends over. The sibling (in their 20's) also had friends over. The teenager did not "party" with the adults, they were at two different get togethers in the same house. The teens were playing Wii, the adults sitting in the kitchen....Had this teenager made these choices amongst healthy individuals, then maybe a hangover and punishment by her parents would have been the consequence. Instead there was a convicted felon, unbeknownst to the kids, at the kitchen table. Convicted of 2nd degree assault against an ex-girlfriend previously. All public record if anyone chooses to look it up. Had the teenagers known this, even in their teenage sense of invincibility, they would have made better choices. It amazes me that society would in ANY way blame ANY one for the acts of an animal. She wasn't dressed inappropriately, unless jeans and jacket are inappropriate, but even if she was...NO EXCUSE! Trust me BOB, a hangover would have been a welcome wake up call compared to the one she got. Tough lessons to learn. The world isn't safe, and there are those, in their own ignorance, that continue to blame the victim. I wouldn't wish this on any parent, or child. Not even yours. Unfortunately, this isn't a case of kid gone wild. This is a kid who made a few bad decisions, caught up in the moment, and will live with that for the rest of her life. Please, let's put the blame where it belongs...on the perpetrator. He knew what he was doing...he knew his choices, she was never given one. I have to ask you Bob, if this was one of your daughters, would you still feel that the consequences fitted the crime?
