Tuesday, February 16, 2010

LaVonne Ann Resnick passed away February 12, 2010, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, following a brief illness. LaVonne was born October 28, 1935, in Fargo, ND and spent her childhood in Oakes, ND. Following graduation from high school, she spent several yeas working for Bell Telephone in Oakes and then the wide world called. In 1958, she joined the U.S. Navy and served faithfully in Washington, D.C. and Hawaii, until her discharge in 1963. Her honorable Naval service was a great source of pride to her. Following her service, she once again returned to the Washington, D.C. area and worked for a dentist and then an electronics firm, before marrying in 1964. Following marriage, she and her husband moved to Virginia and then onward to many locales throughout the world, following his Naval career. In 1977, the family moved to East Wenatchee, WA, to begin a new chapter in her life. Employment in fruit sales with Wells and Wade Fruit and later with Dole Northwest, occupied her working years until retirement. Prior to retirement and for a number of years after, she and her husband spent many happy days touring the U.S. and Canada on a motorcycle, along with good friends from Missouri and Iowa. She also had a weekly ceramics session that brought her much happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Clifford O'Neal; and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; son, Paul Resnick and wife, Susan of Auburn, WA; grandchildren, Andrew and Britteny; and one great-grandchild. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Ronald O'Neal and wife, Roberta of East Wenatchee; sister-in-law, Ann Thomason and husband, Bill of Bend, OR; numerous cousins; and one special aunt and uncle.

LaVonne was a valuable employee at Wells & Wade Fruit and Dole Northwest, and a pleasure with whom to work. I have many pleasant memories about our interaction on the job - especially during our entry into the computer age. It is with great sadness that I learn of her passing.

LaVonne was a wonderful, thoughtful, kind friend and I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a joy as a fellow employee and a joy as a friend. Bad days would become good days just by sharing your concerns with LaVonne and getting another perspective. She will be greatly missed.

Having worked with LaVonne for many years at two different companies, I feel qualified to comment on the quality of her character. "Honest, dependable, and trustworthy," best describes her in her dedication to her employers and fellow workers. She will always be remembered for her relationship to others, for in many ways she put them "first." LaVonne will be missed by those who knew her best.
