Ida Mary (Bush) Martin
Wednesday, February 24, 2010
Ida Mary Martin, 81, a resident of Wenatchee for 57 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Highgate Cottage. Ida was born in Kyrene, AZ on June 24, 1928, to Fred and Annie Bush. Ida graduated from Hayden High School in 1946, and attended Business College prior to joining the Navy in 1949. There, she met and married the love of her life, Jerrell Martin, on July 1, 1950, in Memphis, TN, while both were serving in the Navy. They made a decision to leave the service and move to Wenatchee, where they started their family. Mom and Dad were blessed with five children. As the kids began to grow, Mom put all of her time and energy into helping her kids become happy, healthy, well-rounded people. She became the ultimate volunteer, whether it was Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls or a CYC Leader, all the while ensuring we got to our various sports events and activities. Her time was devoted to others. God blessed Mom with many talents. Over the years, she developed many hobbies, such as crocheting, handcrafts and stamp collecting. She was a wonderful cook and won numerous awards. She also enjoyed extensive research on the family genealogy. Ida spent many years working for the Camp Fire Board, crocheting layettes for missions and was known at church for being the "coffee lady." She never had idle hands. She was a behind-the-scenes, unsung hero, never expecting acknowledgement of her works. In her later years, she enjoyed golfing with Dad. They also spent several months a year in Arizona, helping Mom's parents. She would then come home and do the same with Dad's parents. When Dad became ill, Mom spent many devoted years caring for him, even to the detriment of her own health. When it came to her children, she could never do enough. Everything she did was with a cheerful heart and a thankfulness that was second nature to her. Mom fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease until the good Lord took her home. We were privileged to have her as our mother, with her kind and gentle spirit. She embodied the qualities of love, giving and grace. We will truly miss her.
Ida was preceded in death by her beloved, Jerrell David "JD" Martin; and her daughter, Patricia Ann. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Jane) of Olympia and Ron (Kathy) of Wenatchee; and two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Stone of Kenmore and Diane (Brian) Sand of Wenatchee. She had 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
