Linda McCoy

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Linda was born in Yakima, WA, on December 9, 1950, to Violet and Dean McCoy. They soon moved to Lake Chelan and Linda attended Kindergarten through 12th grade in Chelan schools. She worked for 16 years as a Dental Assistant for Jerry Woods and Charles Gavin. Linda spent her off time bowling and playing women's fast and slow pitch softball as an All Star at second base. In the 80's, Linda lived a short time in Coeur d'Alene, ID. She also went to college at Murray State in Kentucky, studying Recreational Therapy, before she transferred her interest into Occupational Therapy. Linda obtained her AA degree and received credentials as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in 1992, from Yakima Community College. Linda began working at Regency Manor in their Rehabilitation Programs. She later went to work for NCW Educational Service District, where she could use her talents with the children of many NCW towns. Her daily travels took her to Malott, Okanogan, Bridgeport, Brewster, Chelan, Manson, Entiat, Mansfield, Waterville, Wilson Creek and Soap Lake. She made many friends in all these places. Linda loved the children and challenges along the way and the children loved her. She had a natural magnetism, which drew people to her. Linda loved to live life in a very big way. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, sitting around the campfire telling stories, bird watching, playing games like dominoes, gardening and talking to people. No one could tell a joke like Linda McCoy. She moved to Wenatchee in 2008, to be closer for her medical care needs. Despite suffering nearly ten years of a long term illness, Linda maintained her love and interest for those around her. May her spirit and strength be an inspiration for those of us left behind.

Linda is survived by her brother, Ken McCoy of Lihua, HI; sister, Carol Holcomb of Honolulu, HI; brother, Mark McCoy of Wenatchee; nieces and nephews, Michael, Tori, Tara, Dylan and Talyn; and dear friend, Larita Bigelow of Wenatchee.

The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Little Stone Church, 2133 W. Woodin Avenue in Chelan, WA and a Celebration of her Life will be held at the Chelan Eagles directly following. Donations in her memory, may be made to Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation at AAMDS.org, or 100 Park Avenue, Suite 108, Rockville, MD 20850. I had the privilege of knowing Linda for the last six years. She was a patient of mine. I loved seeing her every time she came in. She never complained, always had a smile on her face and was truly an inspiration. She gave great hugs and was such a delightful person. I will miss her very much.

I had the pleasure of working with Linda for many years as her supervising Occupational Therapist while working for the ESD back in the 90's. I was so saddened to learn today of this news and wished that I heard sooner so that I could have attended her service. I will always remember Linda's wonderful way with the kids. They loved being with her and she always found a way to make learning a new skill fun and creative. She was an outstanding Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and person. My thoughts and prayers are with your family Linda. I will always remember you, Mary Kostka
