Richard C. Parr, 94, a 50 year resident of Manson, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Harmony House Care Center in Brewster. He was born August 17, 1915, at Sheridan, IN, the child of Bert and Nellie (Couch) Parr. He was born in the same house where his father was born. In 1941, he met Lauretta Frantz and on January 7, 1942, they were married. In June, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II. He was sent overseas in January, 1944, and was wounded in March, 1944. Following his discharge, he returned to Indiana in January, 1946. Richard first came to Manson in 1953, to visit Lauretta's aunt. He spent two years helping build and then operating, Ryan's Resort on Wapato Lake. He returned to Sheridan in 1955. In 1958, he returned to Manson, where he purchased an orchard, which he operated for 27 years. They moved to downtown Manson in 1982, and later sold the orchard to Joe Teague and Tom Alexander. He loved to fish and travel and was an avid bird watcher. He was a member of Manson United Methodist Church; Manson Grange; American Legion Post #108; and V.F.W. Post #6853.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years and two days, Lauretta; one daughter, Andrea (Ron) Jefferies of Manson; five grandchildren, Drew Lewman of Manson, Todd Jefferies of Chelan, Jaime Doucette of Yakima, Kyle Jefferies of Everett and Mindy Garfoot of Stehekin; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jini Lewman, in January, 2005.

A Tribute Service will take place Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Manson United Methodist Church, with Meredith Jefferies officiating. Interment will follow at Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel and on Thursday, January 14, before the service, at the church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Services have been entrusted to Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
