James Royce Downs

James Royce Downs, "The Bracelet Man," of Drain, OR, 64, passed away on January 12, 2010, of pancreatic cancer. He was born August 30, 1945, in Ashland, KS, to Harold and Opal (Callahan) Downs. James was a resident of Douglas County for 15 years, and had lived in Forest Grove, OR for nearly 20 years, having moved there from Texas. He grew up and attended schools in Minneola and Dodge City, KS. James worked as a metal smith and jeweler for 30 years, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Marilyn Terry on December 26, 1968, in Kimball, NE. James had a passion for music, enjoyed shooting and he loved the outdoors. He had a special relationship with God and was an active member of Yoncalla Christian Assembly.
Survivors include his spouse, Marilyn Downs of Drain, OR; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kim Downs of Yoncalla, OR; daughter, Lori Downs of Drain, OR; brother, Tom Downs of Fowler, KS; sister, Jeannie Kidwell of Harrisburg, OR; and grandchildren, Jeremy, Kolton, Brandon, Chance, Stephanie, Courtney and Joey.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at the Assembly of God Church, Drain, OR. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yoncalla Christian Assembly, Yoncalla, OR. Funeral arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove, OR.
