Grace Eileen Pilgrim Adams Sommers, 79, was born May 2, 1930, in Leavenworth, WA to Egbert S. Pilgrim and Charlotte Juliet Hutchins Pilgrim. Grace, with sister, Betty and brother, Eddie, grew up in Leavenworth and on the farm on Blewett Pass, chasing goats up and down mountains and swimming in Peshastin Creek. Grace graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1948. She married Philip H. Adams, December 6, 1949, in Coeur d'Alene, ID and they had four children, Mark, Jennifer, Rachel and Valerie. Grace and Phil called the Wenatchee Valley their home for over 25 years, while they were married. They enjoyed many activities, including picnics at Lakeside, dance club, camping, trips to the ocean and PTA activities as the children went through grade school. Grace held several jobs through the years; she was a "Pink Lady" at Deaconess Hospital, worked at Tree Top Fruit Warehouse as a floor lady, delivered mail in the upper Valley and was a hostess at the Edelweiss Restaurant. Grace married Bill Sommers of Yakima in 1975, enjoying a long-distance relationship that lasted almost four years. She lived on Blewett Pass in a house she built with the help of family and friends on her beloved property, until moving to East Wenatchee in 1985, where she lived the rest of her adventure-filled life. Mountain girl at heart, fishing, hiking, chasing goats, gold panning and swimming. Raising four kids, endless kittens, puppies, parakeets, mice, hamsters and frogs. Ocean trips, chimps and seashells, Sandpiper Resort. July 4th camping at Scotty Creek for SFTPOOIDP. Centipede dance club, Dolphinettes ballet in water. Lifelong fan of Harry Belafonte and Barbra Streisand. Her love of books afforded much needed escape, enjoying especially, her collection of Reader's Digest Condensed books. Elegant Primitives ink drawings sold at Art in the Park. All these adventures shared with her children and best friends, Frannie Allen, Judy Brown, Shirley Dietrich Ross and Karen Hoof. Treasured Blewett Land supported her and provided a legacy for her children and grandchildren. Troubled by childhood trauma, and a more recent fear of bad news, led her to a secluded lifestyle in later years. Mentally sharp until her last year, she knew her mind was slipping away. Even with that, she kept her sense of humor until her last days, interjecting remarks when we thought her asleep! Mom died peacefully, sleeping, on December 21, 2009, after 79 years of living life on her own terms.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Price of Medford, OR; a son, Mark (Julie) Adams; daughters, Jennifer (Stan) Evenhus, Rachel (Bob) Henkes and Valerie Adams; grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Evenhus, Tessa Evenhus, Chris and Ryan Adams, Eddy Adams, Luke Howard, Sarah Brass, Rachel Korab and Kris Hosterman; great-grandchildren, Jax, Emma, Reese, Savannah, Jasmine, Kaden, Jade, Natalie and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her brother, Edward; her father, Egbert; her mother, Charlotte; and grandson, Mike Adams of Phoenix.

Grace attended her own memorial party in August of 2009.
