Thomas Joseph Burke, Jr. died January 9, 2010, after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. Born June 23, 1940, he called Wenatchee, Albuquerque, Boise, Redmond, Mercer Island and, most recently, Seattle and Whidbey Island home. A graduate from Seattle University, he served his country in the Air Force, leading to his life's career in technology, one of his great passions. His entrepreneurial spirit was manifested in numerous businesses including, C'est Moo, drawing on another of his joys in life, ice cream. Tom was a lifelong member of the WAC, where he enjoyed competing in racquetball, basketball and developed one of his later talents, running, including six marathons after the age of 40. He loved fishing, biking and most recently, walking the beach with his wife, Diane and Casey, their faithful yellow lab. He received outstanding care from Group Health during his eight year battle and was comfortable and pain-free throughout his illness.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. "Tony" Burke, Sr. and Enid Elizabeth Burke; along with two sisters, Patricia and Polly. Married twice, he is survived by his wife, Diane Rondeau; son, Thomas J. Burke, III; daughter, Erin Burke McDonald; step-son, David B. Campbell; sister, Kathy Vanderford; and brother, Terry Burke; plus four nieces; four nephews; and five grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle, WA. Please direct remembrances to Group Health Foundation - Hospice Care.
