Floyd R. Holloway, 71, went to be with our Lord on January 14, 2010, after a long, courageous battle with asbestosis. He was born June 2, 1938, in West Plains, MO, to the late William Rudolph and Nellie Mae (Johnson) Holloway. He was raised in West Plains, where he received his education at the Hopewell Country School. In the late 1950's, he moved with his family to the San Joaquin Valley, where, while working in the cotton fields, he met the love of his life, Betty Jo Buck. After marrying six months later, they moved to Wilmington, CA, where he went to work for the Borden Chemical Co. and together they had a daughter, Lisa Jo. In 1963, they moved to Rock Island, WA, where they made their home for 22 years, then moved to East Wenatchee, where they have lived ever since. Floyd began working at the Kenite Corporation (later named Celite Corp.) in Quincy in 1964. When he wasn't working, his time was committed to his girls; taking walks, riding bikes, skipping stones and sharing watermelon. In 1991, he was forced to retire due to his health. He was a longtime member of the Eastmont Assembly of God Church, now known as the Mountain View Assembly of God, and the Teamsters Local Union #760. Floyd loved to travel, especially back to his hometown in the Ozarks, where he would sit for hours reminiscing with his beloved family and friends, of whom there are many. We never tired of the stories, antics and childhood memories he would tell, as his sense of humor inspired us all. His hardest days were spent reassuring us that he was "just fine," so that we wouldn't worry about him. Whether playing guitar, cracking jokes, or sitting quietly, his presence alone impacted all who were with him. Even in his darkest moments, he brightened our lives. There are no words on this earth to describe Floyd as a husband, daddy, grandpa and pappy. He was totally devoted to his family. He was our rock, our strength and our confidante. For him, the sun rose and set in his daughter, granddaughters and his two great-grandsons, whom he nicknamed "Mobe" and "Jake." They always knew "Pappy" was waiting with hugs, kisses and tootsie rolls in his pocket. For all of us, the sun rose and set in him. Floyd fought a long, hard battle, but we know that his time with us was extended due to his determination and the extreme love and care given to him by his devoted wife, Betty. Her constant attention carried him through the worst of times. He was anxiously awaiting April 3rd of this year, as it would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. Even though his health was failing daily, he wanted a "big" celebration, all in honor of the woman he loved so much.

Floyd will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jo Holloway of East Wenatchee; his daughter, Lisa Jo (Mark) DeChenne of East Wenatchee; two granddaughters, Brandi (Bryan) Darnell of East Wenatchee and Andrea (DJ) Anderson of Wenatchee; two great-grandsons, Wyatt Scott Darnell "Mobe" and Kanyon Michel Darnell "Jake," both of East Wenatchee; his brother, Boyd (Doris) Holloway of Rock Island; and the entire family's adopted daughter, Michele (Jim) Holman of East Wenatchee; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, of whom were all dear to his heart.

Commemoration Services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Assembly, 19 McElmurry Lane, East Wenatchee, with Pastor Vern Watterud officiating. Following a time of reception at the church, a Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. At his request, the service will be closed casket, however, there will be a Visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 20, from Noon to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please sign in or leave a memory for the family online by visiting www.heritagememorialchapel.com. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
