Douglas B. "Doug" Cockrum, 57, a longtime Monitor resident and lifelong Wenatchee area resident, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010, at Central Washington Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 25, 1952, in Wenatchee, son of the late Robert E. and Joy L. (Gillispie) Cockrum. He was raised in Wenatchee and attended East Wenatchee schools. In 1971, following high school he, along with a partner, started C & S Wine and Malt Supply. They operated their business into the mid 1970's. On July 7, 1973, he was married to Sharon Lee McKee at Ohme Gardens in Wenatchee. They moved to make their home in Monitor in 1974. Doug went to work as a Mechanic for Reichert Nissan in 1975, and remained there until becoming a Salesman for Alpine Motors in 1982. In 1984, he became a Salesman for Basin Asphalt out of Moses Lake and in 2002, he went to work for Mitchell Trucking and Paving as an Estimator. He continued working as an Estimator until ill health forced him to retire. Doug was a very kind and gentle man. He always gave fully of himself. He would help anyone, with anything, at any time. His life was full of friends and family. He was such a proud Papa. He loved being with his grandchildren, Kalyn and Ty. They would hop on the scooter with Papa and away they would go. Doug loved to go camping with his family at Silver Falls and then there was always the yearly Memorial Weekend Campout, that went on for over 30 years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and kept all of us laughing whenever we were around him. He loved to cook and enjoyed having friends and family over for a barbecue. He had a talent for going into the kitchen and putting things together and they were always excellent. Doug had a heart of gold and he was so proud of his boys, Brian and Ian. Sharon and his family were his life and he had a very good and meaningful one. He touched many lives and was a blessing to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sharon Cockrum of Monitor; two sons, Terrill "Brian" (Liana) Cockrum of Moses Lake and Ian R. Cockrum of Wenatchee; one brother, Ronald E. "Ron" Cockrum of Wenatchee; three sisters, Jamie (Bob) Akers of East Wenatchee, Julie E. (Clint) Biggar of Ritzville and Robyn (Wayne) Larimore of Cashmere; and two grandchildren, Kalyn Mae Cockrum of Moses Lake and Ty Douglas Cockrum of Wenatchee.

A Commemoration Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the West Campus of the Wenatchee Valley Praise Center, 435 S. Mission Street, Wenatchee, with Pastor Sal Dimare officiating. Parking facilities are available in the parking lot north of the Church.
