Glen Adrian Matthew Marchand

Glen Adrian Matthew Marchand, 59, of Oroville, WA, died on January 20, 2010, at home in Oroville. He was born on September 21, 1950, in Penticton, BC, to parents, George and Sophie Marchand. Glenny was a great gift to all; providing a constant supply of love and laughter to those around him. Born in Penticton, he moved with his family to Omak, before finally settling in Oroville with his parents, George and Sophie Marchand. At the age of three, he was diagnosed with a condition later termed Down's Syndrome. Though his parents were encouraged to institutionalize him, they took him home as their "Gift from God." They were told repeatedly he only had another ten years to live with his condition, but lots of love and home cooking preserved him much longer. His days were spent watching game shows, soaps and his favorite show, Andy Griffith. Afternoons were filled playing basketball with nieces and nephews after chores and evenings brought nightly serenades to anyone who would listen. Visitors always found him watching their arrival enthusiastically from his favorite chair, waving from the front porch or impatiently holding the door, waiting for them to come in. All who knew him will miss his bright eyes, warm smile, vigorous handshake and eagerness to lend a hand. He is reunited with his family in Heaven and his unconditional love for all will be missed, but never forgotten. Thank you Glenny, we'll see you later!!
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Sterling and Doreen Webber, Sue Marchand, Fran Sterling, Bud and Leona Forthun, Arnie Marchand, Joyce Marchand, Gina Aldrich, Verdan and Carole Marchand, Wanda Marchand, Maureen Miller and Marie Peters. Glenny was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sophie Marchand; sisters, Joyce Ann Marchand and Christine Marchand; and brothers, Ernie Marchand, Clifford Marchand, Jamie Marchand and Walter Williams.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Oroville, WA on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Jake presiding. Interment followed at the Ellisforde Cemetery. Bergh Funeral Service of Oroville is in care of the arrangements.
