Alberta J. Garrecht, 93, a 43 year resident of Leavenworth, passed away at her home on January, 19, 2010. Alberta was born in Cheyenne, WY on January 6, 1917, to Gustava and Josepha (Pantz) Gayda. At the age of nine, the family moved to Spokane, WA and in 1935, she graduated from John Rogers High School. In 1941, Alberta married William Garrecht in Spokane. They lived in Yakima and then in Palouse, where she worked at WSU, and finally made their home in Leavenworth in 1967. After moving to Leavenworth, she was employed by the Eastmont School District as a secretary at the Eastmont High School for ten years. Alberta retired in 1977, and spent her retirement years getting ready for her next great adventure. Alberta was active in Bluebirds and Campfire with her daughters and Cub Scouts and little league with her sons and enjoyed swimming with all of her children.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis (Becky) Garrecht of Tacoma and Michael Garrecht and Robert Garrecht, both of Boise, ID; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay (Pat) Syms of Palouse, Carol (Mike) Wyant of Leavenworth, Lisa Cline of Roanoke, VA and Nancy Garrecht of Leavenworth; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Alberta was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Gayda; and her husband, William.
At Alberta's request, No Services will be held at this time. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
