Lillard M. Noland, 86, a longtime resident of Leavenworth and Peshastin, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at her home in Peshastin, with her family by her side. Lillard was born on June 5, 1923, to George Newton and Martha Ellen (Barnes) Rayfield at Big Greenbrier, Sevier County, TN, where she was raised and educated. As a young woman, she worked at the M & O Tea Room and later, at the Oak Ridge nuclear testing facility. She later came to Leavenworth, where she lived with family and friends and worked as a fruit sorter in the warehouses. On December 16, 1946, she married Everett Noland at Peshastin. The couple moved back to Tennessee until 1951, when they returned to Leavenworth. They then moved to the Blewett Junction, where they owned and operated an orchard. Years later, Lillard went back to work at the warehouse, sorting. After retiring, she stayed at home and took care of her husband and anyone else who needed her. In the late 1980’s, she went to the Wenatchee Valley College, where she received her GED. Lillard loved to garden, growing vegetables and flowers. She also loved baking and cooking.

Lillard is survived by her three sons, Steve Noland and Edward Noland, both of Peshastin and George Noland of San Francisco, CA; one daughter, Kathy Noland of Peshastin; one brother, Floyd Rayfield of Leavenworth; one sister, Rosetta Dunn of Leavenworth; and a granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; four brothers; and four sisters.

A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Lillard M. Noland will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Ward’s Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Private Family Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Ward’s Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 29, 2010, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Lillard’s name to the charity of one’s choice. Ward’s Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
