Call to actors for ‘Sweeney Todd’

WENATCHEE — Music Theatre of Wenatchee holds auditions for its fall production of “Sweeney Todd,” directed by Colleen Bowen. Interested actors must be able to sing. Auditions are 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16-18 at the Riverside Playhouse, 233 N. Wenatchee Ave.; performances take place 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21-23, 28-30 and Nov. 4-6, with a 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 31. Auditions open for ‘Amahl’ leading role

LEAVENWORTH — Leavenworth Summer Theater holds auditions for the title role of its winter production, “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” The role requires a 10- to 14-year-old soprano boy with an unchanged voice. Auditions take place 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Icicle River Middle School, 10195 Titus Road. Parents should arrive with the boys by 6:10 p.m. to complete paperwork. Bring along a non-returnable, wallet-sized school picture of the boy, and list any conflicts with rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals begin in September during non-school hours; performances are 8 p.m. Dec. 4, 10-11 and 17-18, and 1 p.m. Dec. 5, 11-12 and 18-19. Jeanine Salter directs. Mission: Improv’s crew of actors takes turns this season eliciting laughs in its summer series, “Friday Funnies.” Each night features two three-person teams competing in improvisational games and a selection of judges to determine the winner. This week, guest judges are staff members from The Wenatchee World. The events take place each Friday through Aug. 13.

Patrick Lacey directs a Merc Playhouse production of “Tuesdays With Morrie,” based on the autobiographical novel by Mitch Albom. When a journalist learns his former college professor suffers from Lou Gehrig’s Disease, he begins a series of weekly visits, and learns some new life lessons. Tickets are available in advance at the website above or Trail’s End Bookstore in Winthrop. Admission to the Aug. 11 performance is on a “pay-what-you-can” basis; a special book discussion follows the Aug. 18 performance.
