Dorothy Louise (Buchanan) Spanjer is on a beach; she passed away at the family home in Cashmere, WA on July 27, 2010, surrounded by her loving husband, Lawrence, and their family. Dorothy was born in Leavenworth, WA on May 28, 1919. She was born to James Charles and Ethel Leona (Nichols) Buchanan. She grew up and received her education in Leavenworth, WA. Dorothy met and married Lawrence C. Spanjer on December 5, 1949. They made their home in Cashmere, WA as orchardists. Dorothy's great love was Lawrence and her children. She loved being a wife and mother. She loved sewing, cooking, baking and gardening. Dorothy's love of music was passed on to all of her children. One of Dorothy's passions was children's education. In 1979, Dorothy and Lawrence founded the Corky Spanjer Scholarship Fund at Wenatchee Valley College. To date, the fund has helped 93 students receive their education. This was one of Dorothy's proudest accomplishments. Dorothy and Lawrence had many wonderful trips, including going to all the Dixie Land Jazz Festivals around the country. They met at a dance and continued dancing through most of their marriage. Dorothy's laughter, wonderful personality, generous spirit, beautiful smile and her passion for her family are part of what made her the wonderful person she was.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Cashmere, WA; her daughter, Diana Sundal (Rey) of Mukilteo, WA; son, Bob Spanjer (Pat) of Wenatchee, WA; daughter, Camilla Spanjer of Alameda, CA; son, Jon Spanjer (Lisa) of Cashmere, WA; and son, Corky Spanjer of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Ric (Rachel) Spanjer, Dave Spanjer, Holly Spanjer, Ashley Sheldon, Jason Spanjer, Erica Spanjer, Jade Fullbright, Rolin Fullbright and Matt Fullbright, all of the Cashmere and Chelan areas; and one brother, Al Buchanan (Bernadine) of Wenatchee, WA. Dorothy was preceded in death by brothers, John, Elmer, Richard and Gene Buchanan; and sister, Arlene Ward.

The family would like to thank Central Washington Hospital Hospice, especially Cindy.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, August 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at Apple Annie's in Cashmere, WA. Memorials may be made to Central Washington Hospital Hospice and the American Breast Cancer Society.

On a plate above "Dot's" bed, it reads, "One night I had a dream, I dreamed I was walking along the beach with God." ~ Author Unknown
