Memorial poker ride set for Saturday
Friday, July 30, 2010
CASHMERE — A poker ride in honor of Kathy (Eadie) Robertson, a Cashmere resident who died April 12, will be held Saturday.
The ride begins at Club Crow, 108-1/2 Cottage Ave., in Cashmere. Sign-up starts at 10 a.m., and the ride begins at 11 a.m. All vehicles are welcome.
During a poker run, riders must visit five to seven checkpoints and draw a playing card at each one. The point is to have the best poker hand at the end.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
For more information, call 860-7545 or 670-3107.

Point is....if there was a little more information in the article, people wouldn't have to call. I can't imagine being on the other end of those phone numbers and having to answer the same question(s) over and over when all it would have taken to prevent that was a little more info in the article.

Poker rides are typical to motorcycles, they tend to have poker runs weekly in some areas. You could bring a bicycle or skateboard - but by the time you reached the first checkpoint, everyone else will have been long finished.

why... Poker rides may be typical to motos, but hardly exclusive to them. I have participated in poker rides on horses (VERY common), road and mt bikes, and on foot. And why I looked at notice. More info about Ms Robertson would have been appropriate, too.
As Ferd mentions, the addition of just a few words could have avoided many questions.

Fishtracker & Ferd--Obviously, you've never been on a poker run--cuz if you had, you'd know the answers to ALL the questions.
All the information you need (to begin with) is the start location and time. Once you get there, they'll have you draw a poker card from several decks, and tell you where the next destination is. At each "stop" you'll (draw) another card and again at the next location and so on, until you have 5-7 cards. This is as much a fun event as it is a fund raiser. These stops are usually at food and beverage establishments, and friends tend to ride together from place to place--it's not a race, and every "Motorcyclist" is on his/her own to safely ride at the pace they feel most comfortable at.
At the end, best POKER hand wins---it's that simple.

Bond--I agree, but we need to give her a bit of a brake--she's a newsroom "assistant" (an apprentice, just learning the trade).

Hi, this is Lori, I wrote this brief. At press time, this was the only information available. We felt that it was an important event the people of the Valley would want to know about, and those who were interested could call one of the numbers listed.
