Harry Vernon McKinney
Wednesday, June 16, 2010
Harry Vernon McKinney was born at Molson, WA on February 7, 1918, and was a blessing to all who knew him. He passed peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2010, in Wenatchee, WA. A man of stronger integrity, faith, love of family and quiet dignity would be hard to find. Harry was a Veteran of WWII and served his country well. Harry and his wife, Ruby, celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary of lasting love this past December, something to be admired. He loved to celebrate with family. Playing several kinds of card games was a favorite pastime. He also loved to hunt, fish, golf and collect coins. Most of all, he enjoyed his church and was a member of the Eastmont Baptist. Before retirement, Harry worked as a Concrete Inspector for the Bureau of Reclamation on many power projects - the mighty Grand Coulee Dam, McNary Dam, Hanford Atomic Energy Project, Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Quincy water and canal systems, Niagara Falls power projects and Oroville Dam in Northern California, which was the largest earth fill dam in the world at that time.
Harry was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Amy McKinney; three brothers, Walter McKinney, Roy McKinney and Earl McKinney; and one sister, Lila Aldrich. He is survived by his wife, Ruby J. McKinney, his daughter, Darlene McKinney, and his son, Leon (Bonita) McKinney, all of East Wenatchee; and two sisters, Lucille Kidd and Louise (Arne) Nelson, all of Bremerton, WA. Harry was also loved and will be missed by four grandchildren, Jeff McKinney, Brent (wife, Eva; great-grandchildren, Henry and Ella) McKinney, Christy (Lance) McKinney and Brian (wife, Shannon; great-grandson, Wyatt) McKinney.
A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held Friday, June 18, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., at Celebration Lutheran Church, 801 8th Street NE, East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to H.O.P.E., c/o WVCF, 1300 Fifth Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801, or a charity of your choice. H.O.P.E. provides scholarships for financially needy students to attend Wenatchee Valley College. Legacy Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
