Argument over butter gets ugly, police say

Saturday, June 19, 2010

WATERVILLE — A culinary argument between a brother and sister about whether to use butter or margarine turned violent, resulting in an attack with a knife-edged barbecue spatula, police say.

A 21-year-old man called East Wenatchee police on June 6 to say his 17-year-old sister had just attacked him and tried to cut his neck with the serrated edge of the spatula, wrote Officer Carrie Knouf in a police report filed in Douglas County Superior Court.

The sister told Knouf she was making macaroni and cheese when her brother asked if she was using butter.

“They began to argue over the difference of real butter to margarine,” wrote Knouf in the report.

The verbal argument escalated into a shoving match, and then the sister is accused of trying to cut her brother, Knouf wrote.

The girl was charged with fourth-degree assault June 10. She did not show up for a Wednesday hearing, so Douglas County Superior Court Judge John Hotchkiss issued a warrant for her arrest.

Butter is probably better for you than margarine, but macaroni and cheese?!?! Can't remember the last time I even saw that stuff on a plate.

Didn't you ever fight with your brother or sister and take it too far when your parents weren't around?

With a father that worked out of town & a mother that worked graveyard, you would think we did but NOPE. Only when one or both where home did we go at it. Can't say we used sharp eating utencils either & as far a condiments went, maybe as a defence but not as a reason...Still love my brother too:)

Hey, Mav, you must not buy that fabulous Cougar Gold Cheese. WSU provides a heavenly Mac & Cheese recipe on the Creamery website. I know, it's full of fat but it really is amazingly good...and of course it's made with butter!

Hi Peggy! Guilty as charged on not buying the Coug cheese, but hey, choices are always good. So for those that might enjoy your recipe as well as the cheese, here it is:   http://www.wsu.edu/creamery/recipes/macnchz1.htm

really .............when i was a kid me and my sisters fought so bad that we drew blood about everytime, gave each other black eyes , never wanted to end an arguement last , we were so stubborn my mom could not handle us three , i remember her chasing me around the house with a wooden spoon and grabbed it out of her hand and laughed at her !! i had to live with my dad after that ,things have changed since then but at least i can say this we never got the police involved , when that happens you fight worse and its a never ending battle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Butter is sweet and creamy and yummy. Margarine is oily and watery and just plain disgusting. There's simply no contest.

Shampoo is better. I go on first and clean the hair

Conditioner is better. I leave the hair silky and smooth.

LOL -- That poor girl.... Here she was making dinner and her older brother was pestering her on how to do it. (Hasn't every woman gone through that feeling of "If you want to cook, then do it. Otherwise, just let me do it my way!")

This sounds like a similar argument in our house: arguments over "how long to boil the noodles" (mushy or firm) and butter vs margarine (the answer is "margarine" in mac/cheese and cookies and butter for everything else).

These are teen siblings (21 is still young when it comes to sibling arguments). They will fight over stupid stuff. Drop it and let them be! It doesn't need to follow her for every job application.

LOL -- my father-in-law literally took out life insurance kids on my husband and his twin brother after seeing their fights. (They adore each other. It's just part of some sibling relationships.)

Oh, for heaven's sake, get over it. Kids fight. He is 21 and she is 17, and he can't defend himself? Leave the house; get away from her. Or is he so jealous of her that he wants her out of the way? At any rate, who knows the whole story? Probably no one. I had a H.S. friend (now deceased) who chased her sister (younger by a year) around the dining room table with a pair of scissors. We were probably sophomores or juniors. Their mother was working. It ended before physical contact and the day went on.

I think the young man has unnecessarily stirred up a hornet's nest. Being older, he should be wiser -- SHOULD be, I said, and should have ended the verbal conflict before it got that far. .

Joanne says, "Oh, for heaven's sake, get over it. Kids fight. He is 21 and she is 17, and he can't defend himself?" . From a legal standpoint, the whole thing changes as soon as she grabs a weapon. In many situations it's kinda screwed up because big tough people can easily do major damage to weaker people with their bare hands, and can only be charged very minor crimes. Should the smaller, weaker person pick up any object to even the odds (which is simply human nature to do), that person can then be charged with life-changing felonies. It's basically "Law of the Jungle". The big guy will always win the fight because as soon as the small guy picks up any type of equalizer, he is no longer fighting the big guy, he is then fighting the state, and no one wins that battle. . "the answer is "margarine" in mac/cheese and cookies and butter for everything else" . You've obviously never had my Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, using butter and three different types of chips (semi-sweet, milk, and white). They are the best cookie on the planet as attested to by every person who has ever ate one. .

"(the answer is "margarine" in mac/cheese and cookies and butter for everything else)."

You're just lucky my BBQ spatula is outside,

and I'm lazy,

and my favorite show is on,

and I don't know who you are or where you live,

and the fact that its a completely ridiculous reason to attack someone.
LOL.

Butter should be used for everything.
Mmmmmm, butter....
