Myrna Janet (Roberts) Hansen was born March 14, 1930, in Yakima. She passed away on March 16, 2010 at Harborview Medical Center. Myrna grew up in Everett, graduated from Everett High School and moved to Central Washington when she married Walter B. Hansen in Leavenworth. Together, they had five children. The family lived in Leavenworth, Wenatchee and Tonasket. Her career included holding offices at Hope, Trinity and Grace Lutheran Churches, as well as being Director of the Migrant Friendship Center for three years. She enrolled in Wenatchee Valley College in 1973, under the sponsorship of Evergreen State College and completed her student teaching in the English Department. She graduated in 1976. Upon her return to the Seattle area in 1982, Myrna worked at Children's Hospital, Salester/Whitman/Associates and Lutheran Brotherhood. For the last ten years, she made her home in Wenatchee and was employed with Thrivent Financial, until her retirement. Myrna loved creative writing and taught a writing class at Garden Terrace, where she lived. She continued to be a very positive and independent woman after she became blind, as a result of the removal of a brain tumor. Her greatest treasures were her faith and her family. She loved family gatherings, music, singing and dancing.
Myrna is survived by her mother, Mildred Nelson of Wenatchee; brothers, Merlin "Bud" Roberts of Silver Lake and Richard "Mick" Nelson of Paradise, CA; and a step-sister, Ellen Gibbons of Edmonds. She is also survived by her children, Walter "Corky" (Joanne) Hansen of Lacy, son-in-law, Dick McDonnell of Auburn and Tim (Jane) Hansen, Kevin (Connie) Hansen and Janet (Mike) Merz, all of Wenatchee. Additional survivors include her cousins, Fred (Joetta) Matheny, Arlene (Bob) Peters and Pat Boland, all of Everett; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend, Rich Wood of Seattle.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1408 Washington Street in Wenatchee, on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Myrna has requested memorials be given to the American Cancer Society.
