Jennifer Lynn "Jenny" Mathews
Sunday, May 2, 2010
Jennifer Lynn “Jenny” Mathews, 35, went home to be with our Lord on April 28, 2010, wrapped in the loving arms of her family. On October 12, 1974, Jenny was born to Eldon and Darlene Ochs in Wenatchee, WA. Jenny graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1993, where she played fastpitch softball. After high school, she went on to receive her Associates of Arts degree from Wenatchee Valley College. Jenny went on to work for Weisfield’s Jewelers, where she became a certified gemologist. She later worked for Fred Meyer Jewelry and Eddie Bauer. Jenny courageously battled Leukemia for ten years. While on her journey, Jenny underwent a stem cell transplant, as well as a bone marrow transplant, along with numerous chemotherapy cycles. With each relapse, Jenny showed everyone close to her a bravery that would come to define her. This last relapse was a hard blow for Jenny and Jason. With an incredibly positive outlook, Jenny was ready to fight once more. With Jason firmly by her side, they explored every option possible to buy more time, until a cure could be found. Jenny was a fierce competitor in her long battle with Leukemia and not once did she give up hope that she would win. Throughout her journey with cancer, she was a blessing and a true inspiration to all those she touched. On November 12, 1997, Jenny married her soul mate and high school sweetheart, Jason. They adored each other and cherished the time they had together. Some of their favorite times were fishing, camping and traveling. Jenny was a supportive and loving wife. She taught us all how to enjoy every moment we have and that life is a precious gift, that we should live to the fullest. Her compassion for people began in grade school, where she lovingly took school mates under her wing. Jenny never met a stranger, just future friends. Jenny’s smile always had a way of putting people at ease. Jenny loved her family and enjoyed spending time playing games, camping, fishing, BBQ’s and her family’s annual leftover dinner. Jenny’s baking was legendary within the family and was the source of many spirited discussions about ‘who got what’ or more importantly ‘who got to what first.’ Jenny was a member of the Wenatchee Team In Training. She trained for six months and took great pride in receiving her Tiffany’s Finisher’s Necklace for completing the Nike Women’s Marathon, held in San Francisco on October 18, 2009, in honor of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Jenny was an avid fan of the Wenatchee Wild and looked forward to every game she attended. Jenny was a member of Eastmont Baptist Church and also enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship.
Jenny was an exceptional wife, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend. Her family meant the world to her and they include: her husband, Jason; her parents, Eldon and Lori Ochs, Darlene and John Yale and Dave and Becky Mathews; her sisters, Krysten, Kaylin and Myka; brother, Tyler; nephew, Teegan; grandparents, Grandma Lorraine, Grandpa Dick and Grandpa Bob; uncle, Orville and aunt, Kathy Ochs, cousins, April (Michael) Moore, Gavin, Phillip and Matthew, Amy (Damian) Eldred, Maggie and Ellie; aunt, Donnie Beem and cousin, Angie; uncle, John and aunt, LauVonne Melton and cousin, Edward; aunt, Penny Winn, uncle, Rick (Shari) Winn and cousins, Laura, Irene and Tony; her brother-in-law, Terry (Kathleen) Mathews and their children, Haley and Olivya; and special friends, Jeff and Monika Haynes and their sons, Ronin, Soren and Raiden. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Grandma Thelma Winn; nephew, Colton Mathews; and her beloved dogs, Brutus and Ranger.
Jenny had many wonderful, caring people who played a role in her treatment. Although too numerous to name individually, Jenny’s family would like to thank each and every person who helped Jenny along her journey. Jenny’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Julie Smith, Nurse Kathy and the entire Oncology Staff at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center, for the compassionate care that they showed both Jenny and Jason during this long battle. You will always have a special place in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Eastmont Baptist Church in East Wenatche, with Burial to follow at the Wenatchee City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wenatchee Team In Training at 530 Dexter Ave. N., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98109, in memory of Jenny Mathews. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guest book at jonesjonesbetts.com. Arrangements by Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home, Wenatchee.

I am sorry for your loss. I went to High School with Jenny. She was a year older than me. I will be running in the Nike Womans Marathon in October with Team In Training. I will remember her when I feel like I can't go any further and want to quit. If she can fight Lukemia for 10 years and I can finish my race.
