Lois Hanson

Lois Hanson, 88, died on April 30, 2010, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born at home on December 22, 1921, to Isabel and Jess Jarrard in Spokane, WA. They moved to Auburn, WA when Lois was four years old and she graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. In 1940, she married Anthony Susnar and out of this union her daughter, Judith, was born. During World War II, Lois worked at an Army Depot, packaging supplies to send to the troops overseas. Shortly after the end of the War, she met Duane H. Hanson and they were married November 1, 1947, in Auburn. They started their family in Kennewick, WA with the birth of their son, Steven, and daughter, Kristy. In 1955, they moved to Leavenworth, WA and had three more children, Susan, Carol and Mark. Our Mom was always volunteering her time and talents for all of her children's activities and clubs. Lois had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. Our Dad would ask her, "Do you see what those kids are doing?" She'd say, "No, what I don't see doesn't bother me." She was a past President of the Vesta Junior Women's Club and PTA. Lois was an avid gardener and raised a large vegetable garden every year, sharing her bounty with friends and neighbors. Her love of dogs and cats was widely known to everyone who knew her. Lois worked at various businesses in Leavenworth and took pride in the fact that she was a hard worker. In her later years, she volunteered at the Leavenworth Senior Center and enjoyed socializing everyday with her many friends.
Lois is survived by her son, Steven D. Hanson and wife, Marla of Wenatchee; daughters, Judith Barquist of Everett, Kristy McGregor of East Wenatchee, Susan Hessler of Palmer, AK and Carol Hanson and husband, Dan Cole of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Tony Barquist (Kathy), James Barquist (Nancy), Sean Barquist (Paige), Denie (John) Cannon, Kelley (Jason) Steen, Nick (Ilah) Pysz and Stacey Hanson; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Hanson; son, Mark Hanson; and her parents, Isabel and Jess Jarrard.
A very special thank you to North Central Washington Hospice, especially to Marina Haley; and her caregiver, Katy Morgan. Thank you to her wonderful friends who were so attentive to our Mom and showed such care and concern.
At Lois's request there will be No Formal Services. Donations in Lois's name may be made to a charity of your choice. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of arrangements.
