Larry H. Schons was born on October 6, 1941, in a private home between Cushing and Drumright, OK, to Vera E. Linch and Herman Ary. Following his parents’ divorce, Vera, Larry and his sister, Marilyn, moved to Wenatchee, WA. Upon Vera’s remarriage to John Schons, they moved to Leavenworth, WA, where Larry’s name was legally changed from the surname of Ary to Schons in 1950. He died March 17, 2010, in Eugene, OR, from complications of cancer. Larry’s primary and secondary schooling took place in Wenatchee and Leavenworth, WA schools and he graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1959. Larry went on to graduate from the University of Oregon in 1975; University of Oregon Law School in 1978; and the Graduate Tax Program at New York University in 1979. Following release from the military, Larry began working as a collector, manager and supervisor for finance. In 1973, he decided upon a career change and moved to Eugene, OR to attend the University of Oregon, graduating in 18 months with a four-year degree in Finance and Economics as a Bachelor of Science. He also attended the University of Oregon Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctorate. Larry was selected to attend the New York University Graduate Tax Program, located in Greenwich Village, New York, NY and graduated with a L.L.M. in taxation. While attending the University of Oregon, he was a member of the Oregon Law Review. In 1979, he became a full partner in a large law firm in Eugene, OR, until 1993, when he formed his own firm as a sole practitioner and continued to practice until his death. He was a member of the Oregon and Washington State Bars and practiced primarily in the area of transactional tax, business, real estate, corporate and securities law, with further emphasis on estate planning and probate. Larry married Judi Doerner on March 4, 1989, in Eugene, OR. While he never had children of his own, he helped raise his stepsons, Don, Dan and Karl Doerner. He enjoyed reading and fishing, and had fond memories of watching and attending Seattle Seahawk football games when his cousin, Steve Largent, was a receiver and later became a United States Congressman from the state of Oklahoma.
