EPHRATA — Tom Jones is the apparent winner in the race for Grant County sheriff.
Early returns gave the patrol sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office 56.6 percent of the vote. That contrasts with 43.4 percent for two-term incumbent Frank DeTrolio.
Jones said Tuesday night that he thinks about 4,000 votes remained to be counted so he was not claiming victory, “but I’m happy with the results so far.”
He said he thinks the initial results “show that the citizens wanted a change in the way business was done.”
DeTrolio could not be reached for comment.
Jones, a political newcomer, said during the campaign that he thinks his opponent has grown complacent in the job and is not accessible to the public. DeTrolio denied those accusations and argued that Jones had no budget experience.
