WATERVILLE — The latest numbers from the Douglas County Auditor’s Office show that the Eastmont bond will pass.
Only 28 votes were left to count after the last tally Monday afternoon. It’s not enough to change the outcome.
A bond needs at least 60 percent of the vote to pass — in this case, about 6,378 votes. As of Monday, 60.66 percent supported the Eastmont bond with about 6,431 votes.
The measure made a remarkable rebound since the first count on election night. Then, the bond was failing at 57.6 percent with 3,474 votes in support and 2,562 against.
While the final vote was close, it doesn’t trigger an automatic recount.
A public citizen or group must request a recount and agree to pay for the cost, estimated at a few thousand dollars, said elections supervisor Marty Whitehall. So far, no one has taken that step, she said.
