WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee World editorial board met Oct. 5 with Chelan County PUD commission candidates to hear their views on some of the top issues affecting the utility today.
Incumbent Ann Congdon and her challenger Jenae Pape-Miller attended along with incumbent Dennis Bolz and his challenger Stan Morse.
Attending for The World were Publisher Rufus Woods, Managing Editor Cal FitzSimmons, Editorial Page Editor Tracy Warner and Chief Financial Officer Janine Bakken. Reporter Christine Pratt, who covers PUD issues for The World, also participated to record and co-moderate this audio forum.
We asked the candidates their views on the PUD’s revenue shortfalls and financial planning; the controversial buildout of the PUD fiber-optic network; transparency and public access; and the effect on electric rates of the PUD’s money-losing water, sewer and fiber services.
The following six audio segments comprise most of the 90-minute session. We made slight edits to speed transitions between segments.
None of the candidates’ comments have been shortened or otherwise edited.
