EAST WENATCHEE — Cody Vickrey is making it a habit. Cameron Bruggman is hoping to do the same.
Both drivers broke track records en route to main race wins in their respective classes at the Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval in auto racing action Saturday night.
Vickrey’s track record in the Youth Hornets, a lap time of 16.56 seconds, broke the record he set just a week before. It was the third time this season that Vickrey broke the record.
Vickrey won the qualifying, heat and main races, with Shasten Gurnard placing second in all three. Gurnard got a victory in the second trophy dash, but he trails points leader Vickrey (1,551 points) by 88 points in the season standings with just three races to go.
Bruggman, who posted a record lap time of 16.547 seconds in the Pure Stocks, won the classification’s qualifying, second trophy dash, second heat race, and the main to push his leading point total to 1,560. Ardala Donithan, who placed fourth in the main, is second in the standings at 1,442 points.
Armand Franzen finished second in the Pure Stocks main.
Chris Swafford took the checkered flag in the Bump 2 Pass main, followed by Randy Adams and George Casey.
Adams still leads the points standings at 1,132, followed by Swafford (1,058) and Paul Lasley (1,006).
In the final class of the night, Shane Mitchell bested Ben Reid for the NW Modifieds main victory.
Mitchell leads the standings with 433, followed by Kevin Dietrich at 369.
The Super Oval will host an open practice from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, then will have the Late Models, WMRA Midgets, WESCO Economy Sprint Association and Outlaw Street Stocks hit the track Saturday.
