LAKE ROOSEVELT — The Lake Roosevelt boys played inspired basketball against Oroville on Tuesday night even though the Raiders clinched the North Central Washington League’s North Division title last week.
The contest marked the final home game for the Raiders’ seniors. It also came a day after the school’s principal, Steve Breeze, passed away.
Those two factors helped to push Lake Roosevelt to one of its most dominating performances of the season in a 75-23 victory.
“Our guys brought the intensity,” said Raiders coach Brad Wilson. “They turned all that emotion into a positive.”
Oroville is in a tight battle for the second spot in the division with Brewster and Pateros. There’s a chance all three teams could finish with 8-4 records, and if that happens, Brewster will claim the second spot for the district playoffs based on a number draw, followed by Pateros and Oroville.
Ty Egbert had 22 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Raiders.
The Entiat boys team needed to beat Warden on Tuesday to have a shot at grabbing the fourth and final berth to districts from the CWL South Division, but those hopes ended when Thomas Sanford turned an ankle in the second quarter. Sanford was unable to return, and with him on the bench Warden was able to dominate inside, outrebounding the Tigers 31-16 in its 51-39 victory.
Planning for postseason
With their 58-20 win over Warden on Tuesday, the Entiat girls clinched the No. 2 seed from the CWL South. The Tigers will face Pateros in the first round of next week’s district playoffs. Pateros wrapped up the CWL North’s third seed with a 59-25 win over Bridgeport on Tuesday.
Pateros’ Paul Myrick posted a triple-double to lead the Pateros boys to a 69-35 win over Bridgeport. He tallied 18 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.
