Leon S. "Stan" Bergerud, 77, of Quincy, WA died Friday, February 11, 2011, UFF-DA! Stan, proud of his Norwegian heritage, was born to Lynden P. and Selma (Tukua) Bergerud in Aastad Township, MN, on his grandfather's homestead, June 23, 1933. He moved to Vancouver, WA with his family in 1942, and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1951. He joined the Air Force in 1952, and finished his service duty at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake in 1959. Stan married Shirley Hayes in 1955, and started farming in Quincy with his in-laws, Amos and Don Hayes, in 1959. He continued on the family farm with his son and until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley of Quincy; his sons, Breck and Matt and daughter, Lynn (Randy) Englehart, all of Quincy; grandchildren, Erik Bergerud, Katie Bergerud, Travis (fiance;, Vanessa Rivera) Englehart and Lori (Adam) Jewell; brother, Phil (Lois) Bergerud of Vancouver; sister, Helen (Don) Moore of Washougal; and sister-in-law, Jenny Hayes of Quincy.
A Celebration of Stan's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Quincy. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice or the Quincy Food Bank. Please leave a memory for the family or sign their guest book at www.scharbachs.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel, Quincy.
