MOSES LAKE — An 88-year-old Moses Lake woman was found dead in her home early Monday and her son is behind bars suspected of being involved in her death, police said.
Moses Lake police Capt. Dave Ruffin said dispatchers received an anonymous call shortly after midnight Sunday reporting a victim of an assault had died. The caller provided an address on the 1400 block of Sunset Drive.
Dispatchers also got a 911 call from a man who reported his mother had died inside her home on that block of Sunset Drive, Ruffin said. The man lived with his mother.
Officers arrived and found Edna A. Simmons dead, Ruffin said. There was a “suspicious amount of blood” inside the home, he said.
The man told officers he was in the home at the time of his mother’s death, but provided various accounts of the circumstances of her death, Ruffin said.
He was arrested and booked into the Grant County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
An autopsy was performed Monday under the direction of Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison, according to Kyle Foreman, Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
“The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and torso,” a statement from Foreman said.
