YAKIMA — Fifteen runs is usually enough to win several softball games, let alone a single one. But it wasn’t enough for Brewster to avoid elimination at the state Class 2B softball tournament Friday.
After losing their first tournament game 13-2 to Mossyrock, the Bears put 15 on the board against LaConner in their second game, only to fall short in a 16-15 season-ending loss.
Three of the four state qualifiers from the Central Washington 2B league went two-and-out Friday — Warden and Kittitas also lost their only two tourney games — with only upstart Liberty Bell making it through to the second day.
The Mountain Lions, the No. 4 seed from the region, lost 12-2 to Colfax in the first round, but bounced back to beat Orcas Island 11-10.
Liberty Bell was to meet Dayton in the consolation quarterfinals at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Chelan lost to Connell 13-4 in the first round, then was eliminated in a 10-3 loss to Nooksack Valley.
The Goats took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning against Nooksack Valley, but the wheels fell off after that.
“Our defense fell apart, the weather turned to crap, and once they tied it up we couldn’t catch the ball,” Chelan coach Jeff Barker said. “We were up 3-1 going into the sixth, then the skies opened up and our defense lost it.”
