CARLTON — A Lake Tapps man who was hunting near Carlton Saturday was found dead in the woods after a day-long search Sunday.
Charles R. Dodson, 51, apparently suffered from a medical problem and died, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.
He was camping with a friend at the Foggy Dew Campground southwest of Carlton, and the two went separate ways Saturday to hunt during opening day of deer hunting season, Rogers said. His hunting partner called police at about 9:55 p.m., when Dodson didn’t return to camp.
Sheriff’s deputies searched roads and campgrounds on Saturday night, then assembled a search and rescue team, who found Dodson’s body shortly after 3 p.m., he said. It took about five hours to retrieve the body, he said.
Rogers said there were no signs of foul play. He said it will be up to the coroner to determine if an autopsy will be done.
The man’s family in Lake Tapps, east of Tacoma, was notified, he said.
