CASHMERE — The Cashmere volleyball team became the first opponent to take a set off No. 2-ranked Chelan in over a month, but still succumbed to the Goats in four sets on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs dropped the first two sets 25-12 and 25-20, but scrapped their way to a 25-20 in the third set, staving off elimination before Chelan won 25-15 in the fourth set.
“We really buckled down at practice to step up our defense,” Cashmere coach Sharmen Dye said. “We just don’t have the size to match up with them, but we worked really hard on the defensive side.”
Courtney Dietrich had 17 kills and two blocks in the match for Chelan, and Abby Phelps added nine kills, 28 assists and five aces).
Cascade 3, Omak 0
Arielle Turner and Hannah Cowan combined for 17 kills to help the Kodiaks to the sweep.
Hanford 5, Eastmont 1
Jerusha Pech scored in the second minute for the Wildcats, but that’s all they could muster against the home-standing Falcons.
Hanford’s Haille Heid had a hat trick in the win.
Cashmere 13, Chelan 0
Gaby Gonzalez (four goals) and Tianna Helm (three goals), helped the undefeated Bulldogs to the rout.
