WENATCHEE — Shayla White headed in a free kick by Sara Silva to give the Wenatchee girls’ soccer team a 3-all draw against perennial Class 1A powerhouse Seattle Academy Wednesday in a non-league match at the Apple Bowl.
The Panthers, playing on consecutive days early in the season, trailed the Cardinals 2-1 in the first 10 minutes of the match.
“We were looking how we looked yesterday (at Lewis & Clark) to start, which was a little worrisome,” Wenatchee coach Katie Fox said. “We were over-thinking it all on the defensive side, and we really simplified things at halftime.”
White, Paighton Miller and Nicole Dorsey each scored for the Panthers (0-2-1).
White’s tally was the first WHS goal scored via header this season, and continuing the “Headers for Haiti” charitable drive begun by Panther goalkeeper Megan Wade last season, Columbia Fruit Packers will donate $50 to collect soccer gear for kids in the Caribbean nation.
