Edna Mae Johnson
Okanogan, WA
Edna Mae Johnson, 84, of Okanogan, WA, passed away at home on September 10, 2011, surrounded by family and friends, she wanted to come home for one last hug and kiss from those she loved. She was born January 29, 1927, in Pateros, WA to William and Mabel Burns. She was raised in Carlton, WA, where she attended grade school; she graduated from Twisp High School in 1945. In 1946, she met Karl Johnson, and they married March 5, 1946. On March 12, 2011, they celebrated 65 years together with a catered party in Wenatchee, with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They first lived in Twisp, then settled at home in Brewster for many years, until moving to Okanogan in 2005, next to their daughter, Laurie. Through the years, Edna Mae packed apples at Aswell. She drove from Winthrop every day and she was never late or missed a day of work. She was also a Head Cook at Brewster Hospital for a while. Karl and Edna also owned and operated Johnson's Backhoe Service in Brewster, WA. She could drive truck for Karl when needed; they also owned and operated a pear orchard, in Brewster. She raised five children and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked cooking (everyone in the family enjoyed Edna's Rolls); she also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Karl of Okanogan; two sons, Bill Johnson (Kathy) of Omak and Bob Johnson (Gwen) of Bridgeport; three daughters, Sharon Lester (Bill) of Port Orchard, Bunny Johnson (J.C.) of Bridgeport and Laurie Morgan (A.C.) of Okanogan; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Long of Chelan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Burns; three brothers; two sisters; her grandparents; and many cousins.
A Memorial Service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Church of Christ, located at 128 N. Independence Street in Pateros, WA, with Inurnment Services to be held immediately after at the Pateros Cemetery. A potluck Celebration of Life will follow at the Church of Christ in Pateros, WA.
