WENATCHEE — Mission Ridge Ski Team captured the top three places and five of the top six spots in Monday’s men’s giant slalom race as the Northwest Cup series wrapped up for another season.
Alec Jones won in a combined time of two minutes, 7.19 seconds, followed by teammates Miles Sweek (2:08.42) in second, Travis Ahmann (2:09.50) in third, Danny O’Neal (2:09.56) in fourth, and Austin Dean (2:10.22) in sixth. Gage Managhan was 10th. O’Neal was the top J2 skier in the event.
It was Jones’ first appearance in the NW Cup Finals, which began Friday. He raced in the U.S. National Championships at Winter Park, Colo., over the weekend.
Jones was the fifth Ridge skier to win a gold medal at the NW Cup Finals. MRST’s Travis Ahmann captured Sunday’s men’s giant slalom; Miles Sweek came away with Saturday’s men’s slalom; Kyla Miller won Saturday’s women’s slalom; and Cai Yamamoto was victorious in Friday’s men’s super-G.
On the women’s side on Monday, Lindsay Ahmann placed ninth for Mission Ridge in the giant slalom, won by Madeline Leopold of Green Mountain Valley School, Vt., in 2:10.08.
On Sunday, Travis Ahmann captured the MRST’s fourth gold medal by winning the giant slalom.
Ahmann had a combined time of 2 minutes, 14.58 seconds to nip Paul Meyer of Crystal Mountain by 0.06 seconds. The Ridge’s Kristoff Fowler placed fourth, Danny O’Neal sixth, Josh Sanborn ninth and Gage Managhan 12th.
In the women’s giant slalom, Lily Eriksen of Stratton, Vt., had a combined time of 2:15.32 to beat the MRST’s Kyla Miller (2:16.87) for the title.
