Chelan pilot killed in Alaska crash
Saturday, August 4, 2012
JUNEAU, Alaska — A 56-year-old Chelan man and former Okanogan County Sheriff’s deputy was killed in a plane crash in Alaska Thursday.
Kevin Murray, 56, was the pilot and only victim of the crash in southeast Alaska near Gustavus, authorities reported. He was flying from Juneau to Gustavus and was reported missing Thursday morning.
Coast Guard officials located the wreckage Thursday afternoon, about 23 miles west of Juneau.
Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said Murray started as a deputy with the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 and was a sergeant when he left the agency in 2003 to work as a pilot. He was living in Chelan.
