PATEROS — A 66-year-old Chelan man escaped injury late this morning when he landed his single-engine plane on Azwell Road about a half mile south of Wells Dam.
The pilot, Max Harshman told Chelan County sheriff’s deputies that he left the Chelan Airport at about 11:30 a.m., and was flying at about 5,000 feet when his engine suddenly died. A news release from the sheriff's office said he made an emergency landing on the road with no landing gear.
The right wing was damaged when it clipped a post during the landing, said Sgt. Jason Reinfeld. The plane came to rest off the roadway, near an outbuilding and gas pumps.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, the sheriff's office said.
