Fire lose opening game
Wednesday, December 5, 2012
The Wenatchee Fire will play its first home game of the season Saturday and will be looking for its first victory.
The Fire will play host to the Snohomish Skyhawks at 7 p.m. at the Wenatchee Sportsplex.
On Dec. 2, Wentchee lost its season opener to the WSA Rapids 14-9. Andy Garcia and Juan Barboza scored two goals each for the Fire, and Barboza added two assists. A Barboza goal tied the game at 6-6 in the third period, but soon thereafter the Rapids went on a three-goal run and withstood a late Fire rally to clinch the victory.
Wenatchee goalkeeper Ricardo Hertado made 23 saves to slow down the attack of the defending Northwest Division champions.
“(Our) performance was hindered with personnel issues that eliminated both forwards within the first few minutes of the game, forcing serious adjustments on the fly early on,” said Wenatchee coach Mike Osborn.
