Rock Island fire kills at least seven cats

Firefighters check out a house at 6 Douglas St. in Rock Island where fire badly damaged the home and smoke killed at least seven cats. The fire, reported by neighbors about 4 p.m. Tuesday, may have been started by a malfuctioning heater thermostat. No one was home when it started.
