NCW — It’s still a little far out to forecast, but the National Weather Service says we may see sunny skies on New Year’s Day, accompanied by some pretty cold nights.
A weak storm system is forecast to move across the North Cascades and into North Central Washington this weekend, bringing a slight chance of snow or even rain on Saturday, meteorologist Jeffrey Cote said.
Then, look for the overcast skies to clear — at least somewhat — with partly to mostly sunny skies throughout North Central Washington.
By Sunday night, temperatures in Wenatchee will drop to the low- or mid-20s, and higher elevations — including the Methow Valley and the Waterville Plateau — can expect single-digit temperatures, he said.
That clearer weather could last into New Year’s Day, Cote added.
For the rest of this year, he said, “We’re in kind of a quiet weather pattern. Other than that weak system, we’re not expecting any really big storms.”
