WENATCHEE — Mission Ridge’s Alec Jones won his second straight giant slalom race Sunday on his home course to capture the overall Hampton Cup trophy.
Jones had plenty of competition — from his own teammates. The Mission Ridge Ski Team claimed the top five spots and six of the top seven in the men’s race.
In the women’s giant slalom on Sunday, Haley Hanseler reached the podium with a third-place finish.
The annual Starr Ranch Diamond Grower Hampton Cup attracted 155 skiers from around the Pacific Northwest for two days of races under sunny skies at Mission Ridge.
Jones, 17, turned in a combined time of 2:08.19 for his two runs Sunday to beat teammates Cai Yamamoto, 18, who finished in 2:11.57, and Miles Sweek, 18, who posted a 2:12.92. Fellow Mission Ridge athletes Travis Ahmann, 17, (fourth), Clayton Conner, 20, (fifth) and Josh Sanborn, 18, (seventh) also made the top 10.
Yamamoto was fourth after the first run but had a blistering 1:05.53 second run to move into the runner-up spot.
Hanseler, 17, took third in the women’s race with a time of 2:17.53. Teammates Delilah Cupp, 14, (fifth) and Taylor Bauernfeind, 15, (sixth) finished in the top 10. Anna Mounsey of Team Alpental Snoqualmie took first Sunday, earning the overall Hampton Cup ladies trophy in the process.

Jones captured the men’s giant slalom race in a combined time for his two runs of 2:08.80. Coming in second place was teammate Austin Dean in 2:10.17. Sanborn, was fifth in 2:16.33.
In the women’s giant slalom, Hanseler finished third in 2:17.71, about three seconds behind the victorious Mounsey.
Cupp, who races in the J-3 division (13- and 14-year-olds), finished fifth in 2:19.35. Bauernfeind was seventh in 2:22.73.
FIS Miele Cup
Mission Ridge’s Kyla Miller came in 15th in Sunday’s giant slalom race in the FIS Miele Cup at Apex Mountain Resort, B.C. Teammate Hannah Bodily was 25th. Another MRST athlete, Gage Managhan, was 23rd in the men’s giant slalom at Apex.
On Saturday, Mission Ridge had three skiers finish in the top 20 in giant slalom races. Miller came in 16th (combined time of 2:10.05) in the women’s event, and Kristoff Fowler was 17th (2:05.47), and Carl Noges was 19th (2:06.15) in the men’s event.
