In loving memory of Lois June McManus, AKA Lois June Humphrey

Cashmere, WA

Lois passed on to the heavens in her sleep on February 5, 2012, in Cashmere, WA. Lois lived a full life, steeped in adventure and color. She was born in Osseo, WI on June 22, 1926. She and her sister, Marion Traylor (AKA Marion Onesha Humphrey), were orphaned at ages five and six in North Dakota when their mother passed away from scarlet fever in her early 20's. After several years of care by different relatives who were farming in York, WI, she and Marion, ages 14 and 16, were adopted by their aunt, Ethel Case, and brought to Wenatchee, WA. There, Lois married Hal Jay McManus of Cashmere, WA after his return from World War II. They raised a family in Okanogan, WA while owning and operating Okanogan Hardware Store. Lois was a devoted mother to five children: Jeffrey Jay McManus and wife, Carolyn Shank McManus, of Lake Forest Park, WA; Gregory Glen McManus and wife, Roberta Stetson McManus, of Edmonds, WA; Brian Lee McManus; Hal Jay McManus Jr.; and Jennifer Ina McManus of Cashmere. She was grandmother to three granddaughters: Sara McManus of Seattle, Meagan McManus of Seattle, and Kerry McManus and husband, Thomas Eastwood of Bellingham. In her life she was many things, including: a loving daughter, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an orphan, a Wisconsin farm girl, a traveler, a dreamer, an athlete, a Wenatchee High School cheerleader, a matriarch, an artist, a gardener, a painter, an interior decorator, a nursing student, a substitute Mother for neighborhood children, a caretaker of orphaned animals, a Cub Scout leader, a Campfire Girl leader, an advocate for social and women's rights, an advocate for wildlife, a sports fan, a dancer, a singer, a beauty queen, and most of all, a strong-willed free spirit.

"When you are joyous, look deep into your heart, and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again into your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." ~ Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Marion Traylor of Wenatchee; and two sons, Brian Lee McManus and Hal Jay McManus.

Her strength will carry on through those who loved her, and she will be remembered for her beauty in spirit and body. Lois was a proud member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wenatchee. Services will be held for Lois and Brian at St. Luke's on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Address - 428 King Street, Wenatchee, WA.
