JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. — Racing as a U.S. Ski Team member, Mission Ridge’s Brooke Wales finished third Saturday during the women’s giant slalom race at the Wild West Classic Elite FIS Series at Snow King Resort.
Wales’ combined time for her two runs was 1:42.81, just behind winner Julia Ford’s time of 1:42.28 and second-place finisher Megan McJames’ 1:42.38. Ford, of Plymouth, N.H., and McJames, of Park City, Utah, also are on the U.S. Ski Team.
The next top Mission Ridge skier was Haley Hanseler, who came in 29th in 1:49.64. Hanseler was joined by teammates Kyla Miller (53rd), Lindsay Ahmann (55th), Taylor Bauernfeind (58th), and Hannah Bodily (71st).
In the men’s giant slalom, Cai Yamamoto was the top Mission Ridge finisher, coming in 34th with a time of 1:43.92. Behind Yamamoto were teammates Danny O’Neal (37th), Austin Dean (40th), Josh Sanborn (49th), Travis Ahmann (52nd), and Max Tobler (81st).
The men’s race was won by the U.S. Ski Team’s Seppi Stiegler, a former All-America skier from the University of Denver. Placing second was Sweden’s Olle Friberg, who skis for Rocky Mountain College in Montana.
There will be another series of GS races today and then slalom races on Monday.
