Here are the results of poll questions on wenatcheeworld.com in the past week and some of the responses:
It looks like Doc Hastings is out and Dave Reichert is in as congressman for the Wenatchee Valley and Chelan County. How do you view the change?
Great, looking forward to new representation 25 percent
Not excited, but better than Hastings 11 percent
Dont’t know much about Reichert 15 percent
Will miss Doc 24 percent
Doesn’t matter, we need a Democrat 25 percent
Comments
• As I understand it, I’ll still be in Hastings’ district ... I’d like a representative who thinks for him/herself and doesn’t just parrot the party line, whatever the party. Won’t be holding my breath, though.
• I think it is ridiculous that we are voting with King County. We are not part of the Seattle area and it is a slippery slope to tie us together. King County always gets their way anyway and now we will be part of it. No one has explained this to my satisfaction.
• The real test is not who we inherit right now, but what about future elections? Will we be able to elect a representative from east of the “Cascade Curtain” in the future, or will we forever be represented from someone on the west side?
• Doesn’t really matter. One politician is pretty much the same as another.
Are Apple electronic products superior?
Yes, and worth the price 35 percent
Yes, but not worth the higher prices 19 percent
Others are just as good 21 percent
Apple is way overrated 25 percent
Comments
• Apple is leading in the way in developing innovative software systems, something Bill Gates and MS never figured out; Apple has earned the additional margin. However, I only wish the hardware was a little more durable and dependable. Apple uses the same 6-year old Chinese girls as everyone else to manufacture their devices.
• Go Apple! Let Apple stock value continue to increase even as the economy wallows. If the product wasn’t so good, folks wouldn’t buy. Just ask Microsoft about the Zune!
• Until the Android OS came out, Apple was superior in every way and worth the price. The Droid phones and Android tabs are just about on par and cheaper. As I have experienced, anyway. From the Samsung 7-inch tab.
Should gay marriage be legal in Washington state?
Yes 92 percent
No 8 percent
Editor’s note: The vote on this poll was 46 percent yes to 54 percent no when a popular progressive blog urged its readers to vote, changing the results dramatically.
• Marriage is between an man and a woman. I have no objections to civil unions granting the same rights — just don’t call it marriage.
• I remember when Jane and Joe got married last year and how horrible it’s been for me ever since. The fact that they were married affected my personal lifestyle so much that I have since been unable to function properly, have fallen into deep depression, and have seen my tax dollars go to waste as the government endorsed their marriage. Oh, wait. None of that happened. And it wouldn’t happen if Jane and Sally or Joe and James were married. It DOES NOT and WILL NOT affect me personally whatsoever. Just because a sect thinks something is unethical, doesn’t mean it should be against the law, or more importantly the RIGHTS afforded (and fought for) to EVERY American.
• So what I am hearing is homosexuals want their marriages to be legal so the rest of society accepts it? Since everything they publicly say for the reason, (power of attorney, insurance benefits etc.) is already legal in states with domestic parternerships this seems to be the only reason I can find. This is why society as a whole is against it, we don’t want perverted behavior put on the same level as marriage between man and a woman, we don’t need a revision of history to show “gays’ contribution” (California). ...
